Deep Tissue Massage

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Although still deeply relaxing, deep tissue massage uses specific techniques to work on the deeper muscle tissue and focuses on releasing specific areas of deep seated tension and rigidity in the deeper muscle layers. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in the connective tissue and muscles. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

Deep tissue massage combines the traditional techniques of Swedish massage interspersed with deep tissue and advanced massage techniques such as deep direct pressure, friction and trigger points. This combination results in a massage that is simultaneously relaxing as well as releasing the effects of tension and stress held in the body.

This massage is often sought for specific issues such as back, neck and shoulder pain as well as a host of other issues where the muscle tissue is chronically tense or contracted such as RSI, osteoarthritis, injury such as whiplash and sports injury, chronic pain and fibromyalgia.

This massage is for those of you who like a more powerful and deep hands on massage.
